Teddi Mellencamp finally got the “strength” to leave her husband of 13 years after “years of pain,” all thanks to one of her friends and former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills co-stars.
Bravo fans were shocked last weekend when the 43-year-old television personality announced her divorce from Edwin Arroyave. While Teddi did not open up about what led to the pair breaking up, there have been rumors she cheated on him with her horse trainer! Yikes! And now, a source is sharing more insight into what happened — and the pal that pushed her to end her marriage once and for all.

According to an insider for The US Sun on Friday, it was “100% Teddi’s decision to pull the trigger,” adding:
“It was not just one thing that led to it, she would never leave the father of her children over a single thing. It took a long time, a really long time and a lot of pain for years for her to decide that this is what was best for her and the kids.”
However, for a long time, Teddi was willing to work out their issues for their family. The source said there were serious issues in their past that the reality star “had to work through,” and she did because she “felt it was best for her family to forgive and move on.” And a lot of that work happened when she joined RHOBH in 2018:
“She went on a long journey to forgive and trust again. The first year she was on [RHOBH], she was secretly fighting a lot of trauma no one except maybe Kyle knew about. But again, wanted to keep her family together so they worked through it privately.”
During that time, Kyle Richards was a “huge support” for Teddi as the Halloween star could “relate” to what she was going through:
“She kept her secrets and didn’t expose it for the cameras. Teddi really confided in Kyle and they built that sister-like trust.”
Kyle continued to be there for Teddi. While Edwin and Teddi were able to work out their problems before, she ultimately decided to throw in the towel this year. And you know what? Kyle’s breakup with husband Mauricio Umansky ultimately “gave her strength to walk” away from Edwin for good. The source continued:
“I think once Kyle left Mauricio and got that empowered independence, it helped Teddi see the light of being like ‘Oh, I can make these decisions no matter my age, even if I have kids, and it will still be okay.’ So really, Kyle was the catalyst of Teddi finding the power to leave a situation that no longer suited her. And Kyle has been a rock for Teddi throughout this and is helping her navigate this new life.”
Divorce is so hard! It’s good Teddi has someone by her side, especially someone who has gone through a breakup with a longtime partner. However, perhaps Teddi filing for divorce will inspire Kyle to do the same now! While their divorce filings suggest a messy process ahead, the insider said the and Edwin are trying to remain “as amicable as possible for now” for their three kids’ sake:
“The fact it was a long time coming and not some shocker helped with the transition process. It sounds cliche but they really are just focused on the kids right now and making this as stress-free as possible for them. No one has moved out of the house yet, they’re still under one roof and figuring out a path forward.”
