Jaime King wants her kids to stay out of the press amid divorce

Jaime King wants to make her divorce as quick and painless as possible!

As we reported, the Black Summer star filed for divorce from her estranged husband Kyle Newman after 12 years of marriage, in addition to filing for a domestic violence prevention petition and an emergency motion related to child custody and visitation.

While the situation may sound dire, it appears the actress won’t be getting candid about the custody situation anytime soon, as a source close to King told People she wants to spare their children from being pawns in a game of divorce press chess.

Confirming that the star is hoping for a “private and peaceful resolution without further court proceedings,” the insider said:

“Jaime was granted her request for a temporary domestic violence restraining order against Kyle from being near her or contacting her and is hopeful for a private and peaceful resolution without further court proceedings, which would be best for their children. Jaime strongly believes that their children’s lives should not be discussed in the press.”

How mature!

Newman, for his part, broke his silence on the split Tuesday afternoon. In a statement, the 44-year-old director’s rep explained:

“Kyle was deeply saddened by Jaime’s attempt to obtain court orders based solely on false claims without providing him any opportunity to respond. As a result, he was extremely pleased that the judge nevertheless permitted their children to remain in his care… As Kyle continues to solo parent, as he has done throughout this pandemic, he remains entirely focused on putting the children’s stability and welfare first. Kyle wants nothing but the best for his whole family and hopes that Jaime can find the peace and help she needs.”

The King source, however, said Newman “was not granted any type of custody of the children by the court” and that “the judge simply took ‘no action’ in regards to custody until such time as a hearing with notice to Kyle takes place.”

Per court records, a judge approved a temporary domestic violence restraining order to be held until a hearing on June 8.

King and Newman tied the knot in 2007 after meeting on the set of their film Fanboys. They have two sons together: James Knight, 6, and Leo Thames, 4.

For the record, the two were already spending time apart before the coronavirus pandemic hit. A Life & Style source previously revealed that Kyle fled LA pre-pandemic in search of family guidance, sharing:

“They are taking some time apart to focus on themselves… He’s been staying with his family for months and is leaning on them for support.”

Here’s to hoping the family can get through this painful process without any public drama.
