Jamie Lee Curtis is opening up about a cruel comment that drove her straight to the hands of a plastic surgeon.
On Sunday, the Halloween star sat down for an interview with 60 Minutes where she reflected on the toxic beauty standards in Hollywood — standards she’s been facing for over 40 years!
It hit her particularly hard during the production of her 1985 film Perfect, in which she famously plays an aerobics instructor. The role required her to be in flawless shape. But that wasn’t enough for everyone.
There’s no doubt she looked absolutely AMAZING in the role… But a single nasty comment was all it took to destroy her self-confidence. During her interview, she recalled a cinematographer refusing to film her because she had bags under her eyes:
“He was like, ‘Yeah I’m not shooting her today. Her eyes are baggy.’”
Um… maybe because she was working so hard?? Ugh, what a jerk!

That’s so f**ked up that a man would say that about her… Jamie admitted it really got to her — so much so she visited a plastic surgeon in an attempt to fix whatever was wrong:
“And I was 25. So for him to say that was very embarrassing. So as soon as the movie finished I ended up having some plastic surgery.”
Just to be clear — we’re not against women getting work done if that’s something they really want, that they’ve researched and considered. This is not that. Jamie Lee Curtis did NOT need anything done. And naturally, it did not go “well” as “that’s just not something you want to do when you’re 25 or 26.” She added:
“I regretted it immediately and have kind of sort of regretted it since.”
To this day, she’s upset she did it — particularly because she’s “become a really public advocate to say to women, ‘You’re gorgeous’ and ‘You’re perfect the way you are.’”

The now-66-year-old went on to add that “it was not a good thing for me to do” for another awful reason — it spiraled out into a pain pill addiction:
“I became very enamored with the warm bath of an opiate. You know, drank a little bit … never to excess, never any big public demonstrations. I was very quiet, very private about it, but it became a dependency for sure.”

So awful! And such a prime example of how deep words can cut. Repeat after us, filmmakers, fans, and men in every walk of life: STOP COMMENTING ON WOMEN’S PHYSICAL APPEARANCE!
