Johnny Depp’s team has quickly hit back at Amber Heard’s new legal filing — and they’re calling his ex-wife’s incredibly detailed and specific allegations of abuse “new lies.”
As we reported, the Aquaman actress filed a legal response this week to Depp’s $50 million defamation lawsuit that he slapped her with back in March. In it, she chronicled months of abuse that she allegedly suffered from at the hands of the Oscar nominee when he was drunk or on drugs — a violent version of the actor she claimed they called “The Monster.”
The 32-year-old actress went on to claim that, over the course of their relationship, Depp had repeatedly hit her, ripped out her hair, choked her, and threw objects and alcohol at her. She claimed the Edward Scissorhands star “would become a totally different person, often delusional and violent.”

Heard’s personal account was graphic and painful to read — but, according to Depp’s attorney, it was complete fiction.
In a statement to People, the 55-year-old actor’s lawyer reiterated Depp’s claims that he never physically abused his ex-wife, calling Heard’s new filing:
“A hoax confronted with the reality of evidence requires new lies to sustain itself.”
If that reads like a copy and paste response, it might be because Depp’s attorney already called Heard’s claims a “hoax” in the defamation suit. That lawsuit, in case you forgot, was filed in response to Heard’s December 2018 op-ed in The Washington Post, in which she discussed how her abuse allegations against the actor had affected her career.
But Depp’s team is adamant that Heard as the abuser, as opposed to the victim she claims to be. The the new statement continued:
“Yesterday’s filing, made by a woman with a prior arrest and incarceration for domestic abuse, presented Amber Heard’s new lies. Which part of 87 surveillance videos, 19 (and growing) sworn eyewitness statements, audio tapes, time and date stamped photographs, police depositions and her own sworn testimony does Amber Heard and her PR team think the public is too stupid to comprehend?”
Heard was arrested in 2009 for an alleged domestic violence incident with then-girlfriend Tasya van Ree. However, it’s important to note that all charges against Heard were dropped, and Tasya has since denied any domestic abuse, claiming the situation was “misinterpreted.” The officer who saw the alleged incident was painted as homophobic, but come to find out, the officer is a member of the LGBTQ community herself. According to TMZ, a source close to her insists there was no misunderstanding in what she saw. TMZ also reported supporting documents showing alleged property damage from the incident — apparently Tasya’s pendant had broken during the alleged altercation.
Per Rolling Stone, Depp’s team’s response continues, claiming there are more women who will support their allegations:
“Ms. Heard has a new problem besides defamation, perjury and defrauding the Court with a fake temporary restraining order claim: We are now interviewing other women who have come forward claiming they are victims of horrific acts of violence and other abuse at the hands of Amber Heard, in addition to Johnny Depp and Tasya van Ree, the latter of whom Ms. Heard was previously arrested and incarcerated for assaulting. We have now issued subpoenas to Amber Heard, her hoax-assisting friends, Elon Musk and other witnesses to explain the avalanche of video, audio, photographic and testimonial evidence with which we intend to confront them.”
That’s one strongly-worded statement.
In response to Heard’s claims that “the only time [she] ever hit Johnny” was during an incident in March 2015, in which she punched the actor “in defense” after fearing he would attack her younger sister, Whitney, Depp’s attorney wrote:
“Despite yesterday’s claim ‘that was the only time I ever hit Johnny’ concocted to explain our evidence of time-stamped photos of what she did to Johnny Depp’s face after he was late to her birthday party, in fact, Ms. Heard grudgingly admitted in her sworn deposition to multiple instances of violence against Mr. Depp.”
He said, she said, rinse and repeat.
Clearly, Depp’s team is sticking with their stance that Heard’s abuse accusations are, as they previously claimed, an “elaborate hoax to generate positive publicity for Ms. Heard and advance her career.”
Her story is very elaborate… but it’s not exactly falling apart, like hoaxes tend to do over time. In fact, it’s getting stronger and more specific.
We guess the court will decide, more or less, who’s telling the truth here. Who do YOU believe, Perezious readers?
