Olympic figure skater and reality star Johnny Weir has been bestowed the honor of appearing as grand marshal in the 2011 El Lay Gay Pride Parade.
He will oversee the parade as it travels along Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood on June 12 and follow in the foot steps of other celebs like Chelsea Handler, Kathy Griffin, and last year’s Sharon and Kelly Osbourne.
The parade is organized by Christopher Street West, the group that produced the first LGBT Pride Parade, who released a statement on Johnny’s appointment, saying:
“Johnny lives a life with a defined purpose, is dedicated to helping young people and is not afraid to be himself, sometimes not always an easy thing for a world-class athlete.├óΓé¼┬¥
We could not agree more and think Johnny is a fantastic choice for grand marshal of the parade!
This year’s parade marks the 41st anniversary of the weekend in West Hollywood that draws 400,000 supporters to celebrate the LGBT community. We hope to see you all there!
