New Jumanji Footage Reveals The Film’s 'Secret Plot Device' -- & Explains Karen Gillan’s Controversial Skimpy Costume!

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is finally making sense of those Jumanji costumes!
The action star closed out Sony‘s CinemaCon panel on Monday night with some pretty wild footage — the first look at Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle!

Not only does the sneak peek reveal the film’s modern twist — the heroes won’t be playing a board game this time around — it also explains the vintage costumes worn by Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the footage begins with four high schoolers in detention. The students are ordered to clean out the basement of the school, and find a mysterious, N64-esque video game console which features the game Jumanji.
Each teen picks a jungle adventure avatar, and soon learn the game straight up transports them into a live jungle as the characters they chose!
The nerdy boy of the bunch is pleasantly surprised to learn he’s got the guns of The Rock, while the popular girl is mortified to learn she has the stout figure of Jack Black. And yes, we’re already laughing at the idea of Black playing a teenage girl!

This twist also explains Gillan’s controversial skimpy costume, which Johnson promised months ago there would be a reason behind it.
Apparently, that reason is she’s a vintage video game character, who we really hope is played by the meat-headed jock of the group. Johnson finally revealed on Twitter:

Earlier during the panel, Johnson spoke of meeting original Jumanji star Robin Williams backstage at the convention years ago, and said the new film would be a “big” and “global” homage to the 1995 hit.
Based on what we’re finding out, Welcome to the Jungle — in theaters December 22 — is certainly shaping up to be a fresh, new take on the original. Now just show us a trailer already!
