What many have been waiting for since June 2024 is finally here — the bodycam footage of Justin Timberlake‘s arrest.
As Perezcious readers know, the 45-year-old singer was arrested on suspicion of DWI after he left the American Hotel and restaurant on Long Island, New York, almost two years ago. However, JT ended up getting nothing more than a slap on the wrist! He took a plea deal, pleading guilty to a lesser charge of driving while ability impaired — which is only a traffic violation, not a criminal offense. He only paid a $500 fine, performed 25 hours of community service, and had his license suspended in NY for 90 days.
Although you would think that would be the end of the issue, it wasn’t. Justin sued the town of Sag Harbor earlier this month to stop the release of the bodycam footage, claiming it was “an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.” The man just didn’t want us to watch the embarrassing moment of the young officer not recognizing him, and him saying the arrest would ruin “the world tour!” Lolz!
The pop star changed his mind, though! The Sag Harbor Police Department announced on Friday that they reached an agreement with Justin to release a partially redacted version of the video! And it is out!
In one video obtained by Eyewitness News ABC7NY, we see the moment Justin is pulled over by a cop. He explained he has a rental car for a few days. When asked if he is visiting the area, the actor said:
“Yeah, I’m on tour … I’m on a world tour.”
The officer needed clarification, and Justin struggled to provide a response. He eventually answered with a shrug:
“It’s hard to explain … umm … I’m Justin Timberlake.”
He could’ve just said he’s a singer! OMG!
In other footage obtained by TMZ, Justin is then seen being polite to the officers and going through a few sobriety tests – but he is really struggling through them! At one point the Cry Me A River artist even says, “These are, like, hard tests.” When the cops tell Justin to walk in a straight line, he stumbles a couple of times. He eventually paused and admitted he’s a “little nervous,” adding:
“My heart’s racing.”
Eventually, the police decide to put Justin in handcuffs, which you do see. His friend, designer Estee Stanley, who he had been out with along with her husband that night, shows up and is shocked, asking:
“You’re arresting Justin Timberlake right now??!!”
When Estee asked the officers if she could give Justin his phone, they told her she could, but he wouldn’t get it back until he was released the following day. She also requested to speak with him, but the cops refused since he was in their custody now. At which point she began begging:
“Can you guys please just do me a favor ’cause you loved ‘Bye Bye Bye’ or ‘Sexyback?’ Do me one favor!”
It surprisingly ended up working, and she talked to him briefly while he sat in the back of the police car. Unfortunately, despite previous reports, there is no ruin-the-world tour moment in the bodycam footage. Damn. Watch (below):
