Kanye West Hosts Sunday Service In Dayton Honoring Victims Of Mass Shooting

Kanye West is remembering the victims of the Dayton, Ohio mass shooting.

Over the weekend, the rapper ventured to the midwestern city with wife Kim Kardashian West and at least two of their kids, North and Saint West, for a very special edition of his acclaimed Sunday Service in honor the nine lives lost during the tragic August incident.

As we reported earlier this month, a lone gunman described as a “heavy set white male” opened fire at the crowded Ned Peppers bar in the city’s nightlife district at about 1:00 a.m. local time. In the incident, police reported that he killed nine people, and injured dozens more. Law enforcement arrived quickly to the scene and fatally shot and killed the alleged suspect at the bar.

The church gathering reportedly went down on Sunday at RiverScape MetroPark in front of a very large crowd, which included comedian Dave Chappelle — who’s also set to host a benefit block party concert of his own (The Gem City Shine) in the city later that day.

Sources over at TMZ say the event lasted about 90 minutes and featured choir singers, which have become a staple at West’s services. The special gathering marks the first time Ye has hosted Sunday Service outside of Calabasas and the Coachella Mountain valley area, which is certainly a departure from his comfort zone. But in this case, it’s certainly for a great cause!

As the KUWTK star noted on Twitter, the event happened “in support of the victims and survivors of the Dayton mass shooting.” See (below):

We’re told the Jesus Walks rapper brought lots of energy to the stage and fired up the crowd with words of encouragement, love, and a message of hope. While he didn’t exactly preach, he reportedly told churchgoers:

“We’ve come to love you and we’ve come to share the love of Jesus Christ with you all today.”

We’re told Chappelle took the stage at one point, too, and galvanized the group with some inspiring words of his own (below):

“We’re still here and we’re still strong. And the only way, but not the only way, but the BEST WAY that we can honor our fallen is by getting up better than we were before.”

The whole event was live-streamed online for fans far and wide to watch, and ICYMI, you can catch it for yourself HERE.

As you know, Yeezy’s Sunday Service usually draws in the likes of high-profile celebs looking for an alternative spiritual experience. This whole thing felt a lot more down-to-earth and we definitely applaud him for taking his concept a bit further here — and in Trump country no-less. It almost seems like he’s following in the President’s footsteps in trying to get closer to the people, although we’re almost certain he didn’t screw up the city’s name in such a sensitive time like the POTUS embarrassingly did.

All in all, it looked like such a good time! But, we want to hear from YOU! Got any thoughts to share, Perezcious readers?
