You could say that Karl Lagerfeld has it all.
Not only is the birthday boy (turned 81 Wednesday) the creative director of Chanel, but he also designs for Fendi and his own eponymous line. Plus, he has major money to burn and legions of fans, including Rihanna, a fan who has fans of her own!
And yet, even with all this greatness in his life, and a world-famous cat named Choupette, Karl always manages to look grumpy for some reason.
Cheer up, Karl! Life is grand!

1. Even Karlie Kloss‘ huge smile could not compel the Kaiser to turn that frown upside down. He’s incorrigible!
2. We’re not sure what this guy was talking about, but Karl was NOT having it! Can’t you just feel him telepathically asking for help? The struggle is real!
3. Model Eva Herzigova looked pleased as punch at a party with the Chanel designer, but the man himself seemed like he’d rather have been anywhere else. Canoodling with gorgeous women probably gets old after a while.
4. Meeting Kris Jenner was weirdly not the highlight of the Kaiser’s life. Huh.
5. Kanye West is known for his own grouchy face, but even he couldn’t help but smile in Karl’s presence. Karl, though, could not have cared any less.
6. Some woman deigned to fix Karl’s bow tie, and he thanked her with the universal facial expression for “blechhhhh!” And nobody ever went near his bow tie again. Probably.
7. Karl was once kind enough to begrudgingly indulge paparazzi with some photos. He didn’t enjoy it though.
8. Cara Delevingne tried to make him smile, but it was like pulling teeth. So then she didn’t smile either. Karl’s grumpiness is contagious!
