Karla Sofía Gascón knows all too well what it is like to screw up an Oscars campaign, so she has entered the Timothée Chalamet drama chat!
You know the 30-year-old actor trashed ballet and opera during a conversation with Matthew McConaughey for Variety last month, saying “no one cares” about the art forms anymore. Timmy got called out by everyone, including legendary ballerina Misty Copeland, whom he asked to help promote his 2025 film, Marty Supreme. The controversy, unfortunately for him, comes amid his hopes for an Oscar this weekend for his role in the sports drama. The guy really wants one. He spent his entire press tour for Marty Supreme making that very clear to everyone. But if he loses now, he has no one to blame but himself. Not his girlfriend Kylie Jenner or anyone else. Just himself.

Karla can relate because she has been there, so she is trolling him. On Monday, the actress re-posted a meme to Instagram Stories of Timothée calling her to ask if the Academy would force him to skip the red carpet on Sunday:
“Hola Karla, do u think they gonna make me pass the red carpet at the Oscars?”
It refers to when Karla sparked backlash for her racist and xenophobic tweets, along with a nasty post about her co-star Selena Gomez, which resurfaced after she made history during the Oscars last year as the first transgender woman nominated for best actress for Emilia Pérez. Despite apologizing, she later didn’t seem too remorseful for her actions. Karla insisted she never bashed Selly. She also denied being “racist” or “anything that all these people have tried to make others believe I am,” adding:
“What have I done in my life? What have I done? I haven’t killed a single fly. When I have a spider in my house I put a little glass on it so as not to kill it and take it out to the street.”
However, nothing she said changed things. The damage was already done. As a result of the controversy, the actress skipped the red carpet, though she did attend the ceremony. She now continues to insist she did nothing wrong — and is trolling Timothée’s situation a year later to make that point. Karla bluntly responded to the meme:
“Are you a trans woman? Then don’t worry about it, Tim. Besides, I love ballet slippers and I’ve seen ‘The Phantom of the Opera ten times.’ Not sure if that counts for anything. Best of luck with the awards. Even though no one has seen or heard me say anything, while they have both seen and heard you, people still seem to prefer believing whatever the bad guys claim I said.”
What Timothée said wasn’t cool, but it was nowhere near as bad as what Karla tweeted — criticizing the late George Floyd, being Islamophobic, and more. Will it derail his whole Oscars campaign (or his career) like hers? We’ll see on Sunday.
