Morgan Wallen's SNL Walkout Shaded By Kenan Thompson: 'Not Necessarily My Favorite'

Kenan Thompson Shades Morgan Wallen For SNL Walkout: 'Don't Know If He Understood The Assignment'

Finally, a cast member is breaking his silence on Morgan Wallen’s controversial Saturday Night Live walkout!

The country star made headlines over the weekend when he broke standard SNL protocol in what looked like a crude gesture to the cast. Instead of joining host Mikey Madison to mingle with the cast as the credits rolled, he abruptly walked off the Studio 8H stage directly after she finished her outro. Watch the awkward moment (below):

Shortly after that, he sent a pretty clear signal how he felt about the performers — and New York generally. He posted a photo of a private plane on his Instagram Story pleading to get out of New York and back to “God’s country.” See (below):

Yes, because a minute more among all those minorities in a place where he’s judged for using racial slurs would have been sooooo painful!

So shady! But guess what? Kenan Thompson can go bar for bar!

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight on Monday, the longtime SNL cast member shared his thoughts on the polarizing moment:

“I don’t know what goes through people’s minds when they decide to do stuff like that. I don’t know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way.”

HA! The fact he not only walked off but walked FORWARD — a path where he wouldn’t have to get close to any of the cast… It spoke volumes to use that he understood what he was doing. And yeah, the certain kind of way he was feeling was maybe… anti-diversity? Just sayin’! We mean… “God’s country”?

After Morgan darted off the stage, Kenan can be seen seemingly pointing it out to his fellow cast member Ego Nwodim — and their respective looks say more than any words could! LOLz!

But if there was any doubt he saw it go down live, he confirmed to the outlet he “definitely saw it” adding:

“You see somebody before you get a chance to say hi or say good job or anything like that, they just dipping. I thought maybe he had to go to the potty or something.”

Ha! Nope! He just wanted to get the hell out of there! The 46-year-old added:

“It’s definitely a spike in the norm. We’re so used to everybody just turning around and high-fiving us, everybody’s saying, ‘Good job, good job, good job.’ So when there’s a departure from that, it’s like, hmm, I wonder what that’s about?”

Yeah, it definitely made for some weird air in the room, that’s for sure!

Kenan added he actually “never met” Morgan during this episode OR when he was on in 2020. We wonder which other cast members have never met the guy. The Good Burger star noted he “seems like a complicated individual, I guess.”

LOLz!

In Morgan’s defense, Kenan also pointed out the Wasted on You singer wasn’t the first guest to pull a move of the sort:

Prince did the same thing. I’m not saying Morgan Wallen is Prince, but we weren’t surprised because Prince was notoriously kind of standoffish. It’s just how he was. So we just thought like, ‘Okay, now he’s gone back into fantasyland.’”

Yeah, but Morgan kind of went back to Fantasyland, too, right? Just the xenophobic red state version? Kenan added:

“But Saturday I guess it was just different because it just felt so abrupt. And it was already such a small grouping on the stage anyway. So it was just like, oh wow, that was pretty visible. You know what I’m saying? It was a pretty visible thing.”

Very much so! Especially since Morgan ran off RIGHT past cameras!

On the controversial singer’s “God’s country” IG Story post, Kenan added:

“The ‘God’s country’ of it all is strange because it’s like, what are you trying to say? You trying to say that we are not in God’s country? We’re not all in God’s country? We’re not all under God’s umbrella? That’s not necessarily my favorite. But whatever. Moving on, we got a new show. We got Jack Black this week. We’re here talking about GERD. We will be fine.”

HA! Hopefully Jack Black will be a bit more personable… He’d have to really try hard not to be!

Thoughts, Perezcious readers??
