Mrs. West shared with the Microsoft Theater crowd (below):

“Our family knows first hand how truly compelling television comes from real people just being themselves.”

Real people?!

Before Kendall could even share the next half of the sentence, the famous crowd couldn’t help but burst into laughter.

With a wince, the model continued:

“telling their stories, unfiltered and unscripted.”

Unfiltered and unscripted?!

The Keeping Up with the Kardashians stars didn’t let the mocking phase them, and presented the award to RuPaul’s Drag Race. Innerestingly enough, per a People insider, Kylie Jenner was supposed to join the 38-year-old and 23-year-old on stage, but was under the weather. Luckily for her, she got to miss the embarrassment!

But of course, the audience members weren’t the only one who had a kick out of their choice of words! Here’s what some on Twitter had to say:

DID THE AUDIENCE JUST LAUGH AT KIM KARDASHIAN SAYING ‘Real people telling real stories about themselves’ at the #Emmys?!? I truly thought I heard them laugh at her for that line. Y’all so shady ?”

Did the #Emmys audience just laugh at Kim Kardashian? I don’t think she was telling a joke.”

The audience laugh when Kim Kardashian said her family knows about real people. #Emmys”

The audience laughing at Kim Kardashian talking about real people is a mood #Emmys”

What made this moment such gold is that it didn’t look like it was supposed to be a joke, so instead of laughing WITH the E! stars, everyone laughed AT them.

Ahead of the on-stage mishap, the two hit the red carpet to talk with Giuliana Rancic about their undeniable impact on the reality TV space. The previously-blonde fashion week regular shared:

“A lot of the kids weren’t even watching it. But I do remember having a very positive association with it. My friends weren’t weird about it. They weren’t mean. It was actually okay. It didn’t change my life as much as you would have thought it would. Everyone was super cool. It felt normal in a way.”

Sorry ladies, better stick to reality TV and steer clear of award shows!!
