Fact: Bridesmaids was one hell of a funny movie.
Fact: People want to see a sequel made.
Fact: Kristen Wiig doesn’t want to write it? Well, sort of. Maybe. Not really.
Here’s the thing:
The only way Bridesmaids II is going to see the light of day is with Kristen behind it. It seems clear from the everyone involved that without their fearless leader, there’s no way in hell a sequel can happen. On that same token, Kristen has said that she really doesn’t have time to write a second movie right now, thus leaving many to people the project will be dead in the water.
But fear not, because according to fellow co-star Wendi McLendon-Covey, there is indeed hope! She explains:
“[Kristen] never said that she didn’t want to do it├óΓé¼┬ªAll she said was that she’s not working on it right this minute because someone gave her the opportunity to write and direct her own film so, duh, she’s going to do that first. So no. I think all she’s waiting for is for her and Annie [Mumolo] to come up with an idea that’s equally as good├óΓé¼┬ªIt just won’t happen in the next six months.”
Fair enough. We understand that. We imagine the studio doesn’t. We imagine they are breathing down her neck every second of every day waiting for her to turn in halfway decent pages just so they can bank on the sequel.
But they are just going to have to wait like the rest of us! If you rush this, we’re going to get crap. And there is enough of that at the theaters, thank you very much!
