Lesbian Couple Brutally Attacked On London Bus By Men Who Allegedly Wanted To Watch Them Kiss

Lesbian couple attacked on London bus

A London woman and her girlfriend’s date night was ruined after they were assaulted on the bus ride home by a group of men who allegedly asked the couple to kiss for their entertainment.
In a June 5 Facebook post, Melania Geymonat (above, right) shared a photo of herself and her girlfriend Chris (above, left) looking bloodied and distraught following the attack, which she labeled as “chauvinist, misogynistic and homophobic violence.”
According to her post, the 28-year-old flight attendant and her girlfriend had enjoyed a night out on May 30 and were taking the bus back to their home in Camden when the incident occurred. She explained:

“We got on the Night Bus, climbed upstairs and took the front seats. We must have kissed or something because these guys came after us.”

Geymonat said she doesn’t remember if the four men were already on the bus when the couple sat down, but recalled that the group started “behaving like hooligans and demanding that [they] kissed so they could enjoy watching.”

She added that the couple and the men, who she claimed called them “lesbians” and “described sexual positions,” were the only ones on the bus at the time. The group was getting out of hand, so Geymonat said she “started making jokes” in an attempt to calm things down, explaining:

“I thought this might make them go away. Chris even pretended she was sick, but they kept on harassing us, throwing us coins and becoming more enthusiastic about it.”

That’s when things got blurry. She continued:

“The next thing I know is that Chris is in the middle of the bus fighting with them. On an impulse, I went over there only to find her face bleeding and three of them beating her up. The next thing I know is I’m being punched. I got dizzy at the sight of my blood and fell back. I don’t remember whether or not I lost consciousness.”

Geymonat claimed the couple’s things were stolen. By the time she came to, the police had arrived and she was “bleeding all over.”
She explained that she’s unsure whether or not her nose had been broken during the altercation and still has not been able to return to work, adding:

“I’m tired of being taken as a sexual object, of finding out that these situations are usual, of gay friends who were beaten up just because. We have to endure verbal harassment and chauvinist, misogynistic and homophobic violence because when you stand up for yourself s*** like this happens.”

Four teenagers have been arrested in connection with the attack. While announcing the arrests, Detective Superintendent Andy Cox said that an investigation into the “disgusting” assault would continue.

He shared in a statement:

“Lots of people will understandably be outraged by this attack. Our efforts to trace all the suspects involved and bring them in for questioning will be relentless.”

The attack sparked an outcry of condemnation throughout the U.K., with London mayor Sadiq Khan speaking out about it on Twitter, writing:

“This was a disgusting, misogynistic attack. Hate crimes against the LGBT+ community will not be tolerated in London.”

Our hearts are with the victims right now.
This spineless, homophobic bullsh*t needs to stop.
