A chilling 911 call made just minutes before Liam Payne‘s death has been revealed.
As Perezcious readers know, the One Direction member tragically fell to his death from his third-floor room at the CasaSur Hotel in Palermo, Buenos Aires, Argentina on Wednesday night. It’s still unclear if it was intentional or not, but he was reportedly acting erratically in the hotel lobby moments before, and he had even smashed his laptop, per witnesses who spoke to TMZ. Someone reportedly called 911 because of his “aggressive” behavior and he had to be carried to his room. But once back in his room, the unthinkable happened…

Now, a chilling new reveal of an emergency phone call has left us with a better understanding of what happened during Liam’s final moments and why hotel staff were so scared for his safety. In the call, obtained by La Nacion and several other local Argentinian outlets on Thursday and translated by the BBC, the hotel’s chief receptionist Esteban dialed 911 at about 5:01 p.m. local time requesting emergency services to come “urgently.”
In his first call, he explained they had “a guest who is high on drugs and who is trashing the room.” The line cut out and he quickly dialed back, reiterating that he felt the singer — whose name was not revealed in the call — “had too many drugs and alcohol.” He explained:
“When he is conscious he is trashing the entire room and we need you to send someone, please.”
Later, the receptionist urged the officials to hurry, saying:
“We need you to send someone urgently because, well, I don’t know whether his life may be in danger, the guest’s life. He is in a room with a balcony and well, we’re a little afraid that he…”
Oh, gosh…
Sky News‘ translation had the receptionist saying:
“We’re afraid he could do something that threatens his life.”
Just heartbreaking.
Per the BBC, the receptionist added that Liam had been a guest “for two or three days,” and they could not get into his room. As the operator asked questions, the staffer wondered if police were also coming. He was told both the police and SAME (Buenos Aires’ public emergency medical services system) were notified.
Then, the phone call ended, and moments later, per Page Six, employees heard a noise and discovered the Strip That Down crooner’s body in the courtyard. The fall is said to have taken place at about 5:11 p.m. local time, per authorities — so, about ten minutes after this call was first placed. Whoa.
Sadly, authorities and medical personnel did not arrive in time to stop the fall. Buenos Aires police said in a statement that the 31-year-old sustained “extremely serious injuries” from the fall with medics confirming his passing on the spot. Alberto Crescenti, head of the state emergency medical system, added on Argentina’s Todo Noticias TV channel:
“We arrived in time to try and revive him, but there was nothing we could do.”
He noted Liam fell 13 or 14 meters and “suffered severe injuries that provoked his immediate death.” An investigation is ongoing to determine if the fall was accidental or not, and an autopsy will be performed.
Liam had been open about dealing with substance abuse struggles, mental health challenges, and suicidal ideation in his past, making this sudden death even more harrowing.
