Lizzo has made a huge nutritional change amid her weight loss transformation!
On Thursday, the pop star took to Instagram to share what she eats in a day — and revealed she’s no longer a vegan! Wow! After ditching meat back in 2020, she has decided to reintroduce animal protein back into her diet after being inspired by a trip to Japan. She explained:
“Someone suggested I try a Japanese diet because it’s one of the healthiest diets in the world, and it has some of my favorite foods.”
According to the National Library of Medicine, the “Japanese traditional diet (Washoku)” is “characterized by high consumption of fish and soybean products and low consumption of animal fat and meat” and it “relies on the effective use of umami taste to enhance palatability.” Lizzo tested it out during a trip, she shared:
“When I got to Japan, I was in awe with how clean and delicious their food was. I indulged in fresh sushi and fluffy egg and I was amazed at how good my body felt the next day. That led me on a journey to figure out how animal proteins affect my body.”
It didn’t take long for her to realize how effective incorporating some animal protein into her regular diet was for her health goals, she detailed:
“After tests and research, I found that animal proteins helped me have more energy, lose weight and helped with my mental fog.”
Amazing! Who knew such a simple change could help so much?? (Well, besides all the carnivores who make fun of vegetarians, who are likely doing a victory lap finally getting one back!)

As for what she’s eating these days, in the video, the 2 Be Loved artist started off with a lemon water before digging into some egg white cups, a Buffalo chicken lettuce wrap, and grilled chicken, asparagus, and carrots. She also enjoyed a homemade peach tea and okra water. Yum!
Interestingly, despite being happy with the change for now, the About Damn Time vocalist does want to go back to being a vegan one day, she said:
“I do believe that the vegan diet is still the healthiest diet to have and I aspire to one day be a raw alkaline vegan.”
This means eating alkaline-promoting foods — AKA foods that have a pH level higher than 7.0, such as beets, kale, and bell peppers. For now, though, the performer is sticking to what works:
“Until then, this is the diet that’s helped me reach my goals, and help me feel good in my body.”
The 36-year-old, who has denied using weight loss drugs like Ozempic, then shared how “scary” it was for to get honest about this change, expressing:
“It can be scary talking about things like this because veganism is such a sensitive subject. People are vegan for many reasons, whether it be health or environmental or love for the animals or all of the above. I’m aware how people could take this and how it could make them feel. But I’d rather be honest and share my story in my own words. Whether you’re vegan, pescatarian, white meat only or fully carnivorous, I’m not gonna judge you. Do what’s best for you in your life at that moment. All that matters is that you’re happy. And if you’re happy, I’m happy.”
Preach!
She seems to be thriving with all these mindful changes!! Ch-ch-check out her update (below):
