Inside Luke Perry's Final Scene In 'Riverdale'

Luke Perry's final scene for 'Riverdale.'

Luke Perry will be missed.
As we reported in March, the 52-year-old actor passed away, nearly a week after suffering a stroke at his Sherman Oaks, California home. While he was under observation at a Burbank, California hospital, he never made a recovery.
Though he has not yet been written off Riverdale, on Wednesday night, The CW aired the last episode he filmed.

The thespian — who portrayed the character of Fred Andrews — appeared on the hit show since its debut in 2016, playing the father of Archie Andrews (KJ Apa).
At the end of last week’s episode, Archie’s boxing opponent, Randy (Darcy Hinds), died in the ring.
This week, as Veronica (Camila Mendes) attempts to prove that it was Elio’s (Julian Haig) drugs that killed Randy, Archie is consumed with guilt. To help his anxiety, father Fred comforts his son during this trying time.
Fred says to Archie:

“Son, from everything you’ve said, it’s clear that Randy died from those drugs. An autopsy will support that. You’re innocent.”

However, Archie responds, “But I’m not, dad,” because he knew Randy was using the drugs and should have stopped the fight, but didn’t want to forfeit.
Archie concludes:

“I’m never stepping into that ring ever again.”

According to executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa earlier this week on Twitter:

“This week’s is the last episode Luke filmed. As always, Fred’s imparting words of wisdom to Archie. A beautiful, true moment between a father and his son. Wish these scenes could go on forever…”

After Perry’s passing, Aguirre-Sacasa and fellow EPs Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Jon Goldwater shared a statement with Warner Bros. TV and The CW that read:

“We are deeply saddened to learn today about the passing of Luke Perry. A beloved member of the Riverdale, Warner Bros. and CW family, Luke was everything you would hope he would be: an incredibly caring, consummate professional with a giant heart, and a true friend to all. A father figure and mentor to the show’s young cast, Luke was incredibly generous, and he infused the set with love and kindness. Our thoughts are with Luke’s family during this most difficult time.”

Luke’s rep also released the following statement, commemorating the actor’s loved ones:

“Actor Luke Perry, 52, passed away today after suffering a massive stroke. He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends. The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

Perry and Sharp got married in 1993 before splitting in 2003. Perry later got engaged to Bauer, and reportedly had a wedding date set for August 19, 2019.
Rest in peace, Luke.
