Uh oh.
Over 4,000 New York City Macy’s employees are threatening to go on strike on Thursday if they can’t agree on new contract terms.
For the past 5 weeks the retailer’s management has been hammering out a new agreement with the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union, but as with most negotiations the major battle is over money.
In the new contract, Macy’s proposed “a 35-cent hourly wage increase for current workers, and no change to the starting hourly wage of $7.50, which union negotiators have said does not constitute a living wage in New York”.
If a deal can’t be reached by midnight, employees are more than ready to stop working until they get what they want.
