People have been anxiously awaiting the return of Popeyes‘ popular chicken sandwich, with never-ending lines forming at the fast-food restaurant chain across America.
But the anticipation for the dish turned deadly as police report a 28-year-old man was stabbed to death on Monday at a Maryland location after a fight broke out over the re-released menu item.

According to a statement from Prince George’s County Police spokeswoman Jennifer Donelan, the customer was in line for a chicken sandwich when he and another unidentified man got into an argument, which spilled onto the street. Authorities investigating the case believe the ruckus began over someone cutting in a line specifically designated for those ordering the sandwich.
It wasn’t long before things escalated and the victim was stabbed to death outside the establishment around 7 last night. Per reports, officers who arrived on the scene applied lifesaving measures until the man was transported to a local hospital where he was then pronounced dead.
What should’ve been a normal food run spiraled into something far, far, worse and it’s absolutely awful to hear of this turn of events. Nothing, and we mean absolutely nothing, is worth losing your life over in this way.
Speaking on the terrible and senseless tragedy, spokeswoman Donelan said:
“For you to get that angry over anything … and to develop into this type of violence, again, is a very sad and tragic day.”
Law enforcement is currently looking into the fatal incident and has asked that anyone with information about the suspect at large, including patrons who witnessed everything go down, come forward. In a direct message to the assailant, Donelan added:
“We are looking for a male, and that male knows who he is. He knows what he did here tonight, and he needs to do the right thing and he needs to step up and turn himself in.”
According to CNN, Popeyes has not yet commented on the matter.
The crazy part is, this instance is just one of the many fights that have erupted over the highly-coveted fried meal. In a sick way, it’s becoming almost clickbait-y and viral for individuals to post any videos of people losing their minds over it, too.
