Mark Ronson Comes Out As 'Sapiosexual' -- Here's What The Heck That Means!

Mark Ronson Sapiosexual Explained

We’re not sure how much thought he put into this, but get ready to be the face of a new label, Mark Ronson.

The hitmaker, who has worked with talents as diverse as Bruno Mars, Dua Lipa, and Lady GaGa — with whom he won the Oscar earlier this year for the song Shallows from A Star Is Born, was ostensibly on Good Morning Britain Thursday morning to talk about his new album.

Late Night Feelings is a breakup album featuring collaborations with Miley CyrusCamila Cabello, King Princess, and Alicia Keys, so talking about it naturally led to discussion of Ronson’s love life.

While the public saw little other than the producer’s success over the past couple years, he was also quietly getting divorced from his wifemodel Joséphine de La Baume.

The hosts asked since he was “single” now what he thought of a debate which had come up earlier in the show.

French gender equality minister Marlène Schiappa identified publicly last month as “sapiosexual,” something the hosts could not wrap their heads around. British journalist Nichi Hodgson appeared earlier on Thursday’s episode to explain the new identifier, saying:

“The definition means intelligence first then attraction… I’ve dated men, women, trans men, trans women, across the gender spectrum. I identify now as bisexual. The thing that has linked all these people that I have dated has been their brains. It hasn’t been any other physical factor.”

She continued:

“We know a certain percentage of the population is sapiosexual. It’s always existed, we just didn’t have a word for it.”

So is it really a sexual identifier? Just pointing out what attracts one to a person?

Well, it does if it takes priority. If intelligence is the most important factor to one’s sexuality, moreso than gender or physical attractiveness, why not?

You can hear more from Nichi on the subject (below):

The discussion apparently caused quite a controversy not just among viewers but also among those working at the show.

Ronson, whom one of the hosts revealed had gotten “very involved” in the debate, was asked for his take.

He said:

“I didn’t know there was a word for it, but yeah. I was really enjoying that segment, we were all arguing backstage in the dressing room, with a couple of your producers. And yeah, I feel like I identify as sapiosexual.”

The hosts gave him a rather faux-sounding congratulations on his “coming out,” and we swear it took all of Ronson’s strength not to roll his eyes at them.

This is totally new information about Mark. Before his marriage, the producer was also engaged to Rashida Jones and later dated singer Samantha Urbani and model Daisy Lowe. In May he reportedly split from girlfriend Rebecca Schwartz.

Hmm. We can’t help but notice there are no highly intelligent men on that list…

Here, watch the whole interview (below), with the love life talk beginning around 3:24.

What do YOU think, Perezcious readers? Would you or anyone you know identify as sapiosexual??
