On Thursday night we got the shocking news Mary-Kate Olsen‘s divorce filing had been rejected.
The Full House star had filed an emergency petition because, she claimed, husband Olivier Sarkozy had pulled the rug out from under her — quite literally — by secretly letting the lease expire on the apartment she was staying in.
According to the affidavit obtained by People she had complained to the court:
“This application is an emergency because my husband expects me to move out of our home on Monday, May 18, 2020, in the middle of New York City being on pause due to COVID-19.
The filing continued:
“I am petrified that my husband is trying to deprive me of the home that we have lived in and if he is successful, I will not only lose my home but I risk losing my personal property as well.”
The fashion designer explained she was “gravely concerned that my husband will dissipate, dispose of and/or secret not only my separate property belongings but also our marital property belongings that are in the Gramercy Apartment.” If she had been able to file for divorce, the French banker would have been legally prohibited from disposing of any of their property.
Unfortunately for Mary-Kate, New York courts deemed the divorce filing not essential.

According to an inside source speaking to InTouch Weekly, the former child star was “incredibly upset” by the ruling, as one might expect. So what next?
Well, the Olsen Twin isn’t giving up, that’s for sure. The insider says she’s “currently [in] talks with her lawyers” looking for “other ways she can get around the situation.” The source explains:
“[She wants to] move the case forward as quickly as possible amid the pandemic… While she’s not living in her apartment, all of her expensive belongings are there, and she’s terrified she won’t get them back.”
Ugh, we’d be terrified, too! The idea of everything we own at the mercy of an angry ex? Yeesh!
But at the same time… was the court right? While her belongings being hidden or destroyed is really awful to consider… it’s all just stuff in the end, right? We’re guessing there are divorce filings in which people are in physical danger happening right now, too.
Do YOU think her divorce filing should have been considered essential?? Let us know in the comments (below)!
