Matthew Perry Was 'Emotionally Distant' During Booty Calls, Says Co-Star

This is a sad insight into Matthew Perry‘s life we didn’t expect. Or should we say, a sad insight into his sex life.

Say Anything star Ione Skye released her memoir on Tuesday, cleverly titled Say Everything. And it’s every bit the tell-all its title suggests. In addition to hookups with co-stars and supermodels, Ione also has some words about her friendship… and beyond… with the Friends star.

The ’80s icon co-starred with Matthew Perry in the 1986 teen comedy A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon. It was her romantic lead in the film, River Phoenix, on whom she was crushing at the time. We mean… who wasn’t??

But she became friends with Perry. So when he looked her up “out of the blue” many years later, in the mid-2000s… after Friends, after her divorce… Of course she was excited!

She recalls in her memoir that Perry invited her for a “sober drink.” The thing is, going to have a drink — even a non-alcoholic one — was a code grownup Ione was all too familiar with. She wrote, per Page Six excerpt:

“I only had to think about it for approximately fifteen seconds… I normally didn’t accept booty calls… which I assumed this was… but it was Matthew Perry!”

She says they had some fizzy water and a cigarette… then pretended to watch a movie in his bedroom. But it quickly became intimate.

Ione described the sex as “perfectly pleasant” — but neither of them “gave it our all.” She noted Matthew “seemed faraway” to her. But he told her he’d had “fun” — and said they “should do it again sometime.” She admits she was more eager than he was, suggesting the following week. She thought maybe this could become a “great romance.” But when she came back, things didn’t go better:

“It went exactly the same: a single cigarette in the kitchen; banter and bubbly water; ‘Watch a movie?’; emotionally distant sex; another cigarette.”

She still wanted to give more to this, make it a regular thing. But when she suggested they make it a weekly hookup, she laments he only looked at her “quizzically.” Like it hadn’t occurred to him? Or he didn’t know what she wanted? Such a sad story in the end, considering how lonely we’ve heard he was. But of course, you can even be lonely when you have beautiful, talented women coming to see you every week.

That was the last time they saw one another. But they still texted occasionally through the years, including about a week before his passing.
