Men's Vogue Refused To Run Photos Of Gay Couple!

Famed photog Juergen Teller has shot myriad ads for Marc Jacobs over the years, none of them boring or tame.

One of the raciest was his spring 2007 campaign featuring a twelve-year-old Dakota Fanning, which Teller said was “on the border of being too much, even for me.”

It warrants both surprise and disappointment, then, to learn that none of his photos, including the Dakota series, inspired as much controversy as his photos starring a loving gay couple.

Teller says:

“Funnily enough the most complaints were about the series with Dick Page and James Gibbs because they are a gay couple. Men├óΓé¼Γäós Vogue even refused to publish it. Dick is a very close friend of mine and I├óΓé¼Γäóve known him for 20 years ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ he├óΓé¼Γäós been part of the Marc family for 20 years. And I like the idea of having a gay couple in a men├óΓé¼Γäós ad because it makes sense. And I wanted the ads to be like they are ├óΓé¼ΓÇ¥ very romantic, tender and sweet. I certainly didn├óΓé¼Γäót want to have anything provocative, not at all.”

This sucks!

Like really, really sucks. When a men’s high-fashion magazine goes homophobic, how can we expect progress in other, less gay-friendly realms?

In the end though, Men’s Vogue folded, so they got theirs, we guess.

Karma’s a bitch!
