The former First Lady has no interest in putting on a fake smile for Donald Trump!
On Tuesday, Michelle Obama‘s team confirmed to People that she wouldn’t be attending the 2025 presidential inauguration alongside her husband, Barack Obama. The reason? A source dished to the outlet Wednesday that she doesn’t want to deal with any formalities for someone she considers a threat to American democracy, they explained:
“There’s no overstating her feelings about [Trump]. She’s not one to plaster on a pleasant face and pretend for protocol’s sake. Michelle doesn’t do anything because it’s expected or it’s protocol or it’s tradition.”
She’s keeping it SO real, she can’t even be in attendance?? That says a lot!

Over the years, the president elect’s wild comments have also made Michelle’s opinion of him go down, specifically those about her family and people of color. The insider said she would struggle hiding her true feelings about Trump throughout the ceremony on Monday, so she’s opting to skip it altogether:
“She served in the public eye and did all the public good that she could for eight years as first lady. You’ll see her when she has a project or cause to promote but she doesn’t feel the need to be a public figure anymore.”
Totally fair! We can imagine it’d be hard to keep a neutral face. She’s already had to do it once, we get why she doesn’t want to repeat history…
