Carrie Underwood has big plans next Monday — and her fans are NOT feeling them.
In case you missed it, the American Idol alum will be performing live at President-elect Donald Trump‘s inauguration in Washington, DC next Monday. During that ceremony, the 78-year-old will officially be sworn in as President in the nation’s capital… for the second time. And a Presidential Inaugural Committee spokesperson just confirmed to People that Carrie will be singing at the major event. Whoa!

That’s a big gig for Underwood, as the eyes of the nation will be upon DC (and her) for the inauguration. After all, every time a president is inaugurated, it makes history! But this time around, the country music crooner’s fans are not feeling her move to make music at the controversial GOP politician’s big DC bash. And ohhhh, boy, are they letting their opinions be known…
Here is a mere sampling of the thousands upon thousands of comments that have come in on X (Twitter) and Instagram over just the last few hours on Monday after the Before He Cheats singer’s inauguration plans were officially confirmed:
“Not only supporting Trump but performing at his inauguration? Girl, ick. Unfollow for life.”
“Maybe you and Melania can do a duet of “Before he Cheats.'”
“disappointed isn’t a strong enough word to describe how I feel”
“Incredibly disappointed in you and I’ve been a fan since day one.”
“Well damn. Didn’t realize you were a Trump supporter. Should have known.”
“Trump?? So I guess ‘Love Wins’ was just about pandering. Bye.”
“Supporting a candidate who has SA’d women! WHAT A CLASS ACT CARRIE!!!!”
“I always had respect for you as a champion of gay rights in a predominantly conservative and homophobic space. What a damn shame that you proved me wrong about your character”
“DONE with you. You’ve sold out women in America. Shame shame shame”
“Been a fan since 2005, seen 4 concerts but the announcement is the end.”
Damn…
These comments are popping up all over, too. Not only has Carrie become a major topic of discussion on X, but folks are showing up on old posts of Underwood’s to voice their displeasure over the Trump turn:
In the comments of that post (above), fans wrote:
“As a longtime fan that’s been to all of your concerts, including Vegas, I’m heartbroken at your decision to perform next week. I thought you stood for love & acceptance, not hate & judgement.”
“Something smells but it ain’t the garlic gurl.”
“My Mom happily voted for you to win American Idol. Now she regrets that decision.”
“Girl read the room! Performing for him is not a good career move. I would seriously reconsider this. Yikes yikes”
Fans are even going in on the country crooner over on old American Idol social media posts, too — just check out the comments on this one from late last year:
You’ve got comments like:
“With your Trump announcement, this household will not be watching. Sad and disappointing”
“deeply disappointed, thought you knew better. loved your music from the very beginning, guess we’ve reached the end. not that you would care..”
“@americanidol she’s performing at Trump’s inauguration…a man who is a convicted felon. A man who tried to steal our election. A man of zero character. Stop normalizing him by normalizing her by platforming her @americanidol !!”
“Yeeeeah… I hope you understand the disappointment and backlash from a certain recent announcement. I would love for us to celebrate unity, but unfortunately the people being sworn in have ACTIVELY worked against that unity you’re calling for. It’s quite disappointing for you to take such a stand.”
Jeez! Not holding back at all!
Of course, she still has some supporters, who wrote things like:
“You’d think these were actually onions with the amount of liberals crying in the comment section. Congrats on performing at the inauguration.”
“Go Carrie! Can’t wait to hear your voice sing one of america’s most beautiful songs!”
FWIW, part of the reason why this is such a big story is because Carrie had previously been SUPER quiet about her political leanings. In a 2019 interview with the Guardian, the 41-year-old songstress complained about how “people try to pin me places politically,” and said that she was intent on staying as apolitical as long as she could going forward:
“I try to stay far out of politics if possible, at least in public, because nobody wins. It’s crazy. Everybody tries to sum everything up and put a bow on it, like it’s black and white. And it’s not like that.”
So much for that, ya know? We wonder how she feels about all this now!
