Apparently, Miley Cyrus’ momma was the mastermind behind one of her first controversial onstage moments!
During a conversation with her sister Brandi Cyrus for Spotify’s Billions Club series, the 32-year-old singer looked back on her performance of Party in the USA at the Teen Choice Awards in 2009. You will recall the then-16-year-old danced on a pole attached to an ice cream cart, and it caused quite a bit of controversy at the time since Miley was known for her more kid-friendly role in Hannah Montana. It was one of her first — but not her last — eyebrow-raising stage moments! But this one, it turns out, all happened because of Tish! She came up with the idea in the first place! Miley asked Brandi while talking about the performance:
“This is going to be no surprise to you. Do you know whose idea that was?”
When the 37-year-old podcast host guessed their mom, the Used To Be Young artist replied:
“Yup, that was my mom’s idea. So she always lets me take the blame. When I got in trouble the next day, you know who was nowhere to be found? Tish Cyrus.”
LOLz! It sounds like she wanted to avoid all that backlash as much as possible! While this performance stands out to so many due to pole dance, Miley always remembers it for a completely different reason: the diamonds! She explained:
“The thing that I remember most about that performance was it was the first time I ever wore real diamond jewelry on stage. So you guys remember a little old ice cream truck, I remember the diamonds.”
Yes, girl!
