Nicki Minaj Recalls Being In A Physically Abusive Relationship While Giving Advice To Fans

Nicki Minaj just offered some serious relationship advice to all the Hot Girls out there.

In a series of tweets shared on Sunday, September 1, the Megatron rapper opened up about her new outlook on love, life, and revealed she was once in an abusive relationship that left her “so afraid to speak” for fear of being hit.

Nicki began her confession, first by asking her 20.5 million followers not to pass judgement when they see a woman in an unhealthy, toxic relationship. Alluding to her own personal struggles, she wrote:

When u see a woman in a toxic relationship, rather than laugh & say mean things, try to offer sound advice from your heart & root for her to learn her worth. We’ve all been there. I saw my parents fight & argue non stop & never divorce, so I thought this was normal behavior…”

Minaj explained how her standard for healthy relationships changed after realizing everything that glitters isn’t always gold, adding:

“I [really] used to think love had to hurt. So I could never look down on anyone else. We are merely human. It’s not easy to leave. Especially in the world of IG where all ppl want to do is post relationship goal pics for clout & attention. A man should make you feel safe, not afraid.”

The MC continued to reflect and revealed an unnamed previous lover once made her so afraid to speak up, for fear of physical retaliation. She said:

I remember being so afraid to speak cuz I never knew when that person would be in a particular mood and I could maybe say one wrong thing that would get me hit. So the diff you see in me now is that feeling when a woman feels lifted up, safe, appreciated & unconditionally loved.”

Wow. This is pretty shocking news to hear.

We can assume the difference she’s referring to in the message (above) is the newfound love and happiness the 36-year-old has found in her fiancé/registered sex offender, Kenneth Petty. As we told you, the pair have plans to tie the knot in less than 80 days after renewing their marriage license for a second time.

But, we have to wonder…

Which one of Nicki’s exes was being called out here?

If you’ll recall, the Pinkprint rapper was with Love & Hip-Hop star Safaree Samuels for 12 years before they split in 2014. Nicki went on to date Meek Mill from 2015-2017, followed by a brief romantic stint with Nas from June to December 2017.

As we said, she didn’t name any names and we’re not pointing any fingers — but we are curious. To be frank, we’re just glad to hear the entertainer has moved on from the toxic situation.

In another tweet, the recording artist shared a short list of examples of red flags her followers should look out for in a mate, including cheating, temper outbursts, criticism, and violence. See (below):

“Dear all of you beautiful souls.

A man who loves you does not:

1. Humiliate you on social media
2. Beat you
3. Cheat on you
4. Call you out of your name/put you down to lower your self esteem due to his own insecurities.
5. Hide his phone, passwords, where abouts, etc.”

Preach, girl!

The Queen radio show host urged her fans to love and put themselves first, just like she learned to in order for true healing to begin. She penned:

“But I first had to learn how to love MYSELF. ?? if you wouldn’t let a man treat your mother, your sister or best friend like that b/c you LOVE them, then you wouldn’t let a man treat YOU like that b/c you love YOU. This isn’t about judging. We judge too much. Lift them up. ??”

After Minaj and Petty’s relationship went public in December 2018, many were concerned about the 41-year-old’s criminal record.

He was previously convicted of attempted rape in the first degree back in the 1990s after an incident in 1994 where he allegedly attempted to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl in New York City.

Kenneth was sentenced to between 18 and 54 months in state prison at the time of his 1995 conviction, though it is unclear how much time he actually served.

Despite everything, we’re glad to hear Nicki has moved on to better days and is using her platform to spread a positive message.
