At the young age of 34, retired Olympic athlete Germaine Mason has passed away.
According to reports, the silver medalist was killed in a motorcycle accident on Thursday, while at the helm of a convoy in Kingston, England. Usain Bolt and fellow silver medalist Michael Frater were also part of the convoy.
The Jamaica Constabulary confirmed Germaine’s death on Twitter, writing:
Germaine Mason, 34, Jamaican-born athlete and former national high jumper, died in a motorcycle crash this morning.

As did the nation’s prime minister Andrew Holmes:

The Jamaica-born athlete, who represented Great Britain in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, is also being mourned by the athlete community.
