U.S. Figure Skating Team Sparks Controversy By Picking Ashley Wagner Over Mirai Nagasu! Get The Deets HERE!

ashley wagner sparks controversy placed on us figure skating olympic team
The 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi haven’t even started yet, but there’s already plenty of D-R-A-M-A!
This weekend, some of the top skaters in the country gathered in Boston for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, which was the last chance for women to earn their spots on the olympic roster!
Traditionally, the top three scorers are usually picked to represent the U.S. in the winter games, however, this time around, they went in a different direction!
First and second place finishers Gracie Gold and Polina Edmunds earned their tickets to Sochi, but the U.S. team made a surprise decision by picking Ashley Wagner over Mirai Nagasu!
The 22-year-old has a little more experience under her belt and ultimately thinks that’s what led to her earning a spot over Mirai, who finished third:

“Unfortunately, Saturday night just wasn’t my night. But luckily for me I had plenty of other nights in the past couple of years that convinced everybody that I was ready to be on that team.”

Ashley took a couple of tumbles during her routine this weekend, and many viewers were quick to point out that Mirai had one of her best nights of her career!
In fact, plenty of fans took to Twitter once the decision was announced, and Ashley decided it might be a good time to take a little break from social media until after the olympics!
It’s always sad to see athletes just miss the cut for such a big opportunity, but the fact of the matter is it happens every year. Hopefully Ashley is able to prove her doubters wrong and show why she’s deserving of her spot in the olympics!
