Figure Skater Who Lost Both Parents in DC Plane Crash Breaks Down After Emotional Tribute Routine

Prepare to have your heart shattered…

On Sunday, the Legacy on Ice US Figure Skating Benefit took place in Washington DC to benefit the families and loved ones of those lost in the horrifying plane crash in January. A total of 67 victims — many of them from the figure skating community — were killed after an American Airlines flight collided with a military helicopter. So sad.

One of the participants of the benefit was Maxim Naumov, the 2025 US pewter medalist who tragically lost both of his parents — Vadim Naumov and Evgenia Shishkova — on the flight.

Ahead of the performance, which was set to The City That Doesn’t Exist, the 23-year-old placed two white roses on a table next to the rink in honor of his late parents before he began his routine. Others noticed he appeared to hold the imaginary hand of both his parents at the start. Throughout his skating, he could be seen choking up before he fell down to his knees and began sobbing.

After taking a moment to feel the immense emotions, other skaters joined him for a brief routine to Ave Maria, ending with Maxim holding up a candle. Watch the emotional moment at the 1:19:20 mark (below):

Beyond heartbreaking. We can’t imagine what he’s going through…

We’re sending our love to Maxim and everyone else affected by this tragedy. May Vadim and Evgenia rest in peace.
