Although the identities of baby Archie Harrison‘s godparents had previously been kept under wraps, the news is now out!
As royal readers will recall, many details regarding the little one have been kept private since his birth in May, so it’s not entirely surprising it’s taken this long for information to get out regarding his godparents.

Typically, the godparents are announced ahead of a royal christening, but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry kept things more discreet. While the actual ceremony is traditionally kept private (not live-streamed publicly, and reporters are not allowed inside), the Sussexes also chose to not allow any cameras outside as the family entered or exited the church.
Following the July 6 milestone, the couple released a statement along with two family photos:
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their first born and celebrating this special moment. Their Royal Highnesses feel fortunate to have enjoyed this day with family and the godparents of Archie.“
The question still remained: who are Archie’s godparents?! Now, we have the answer we’ve been waiting for, but it’s not exactly who was expected. Roya Nikkah, royal correspondent at The Times has confirmed three individuals reportedly chosen by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex as Archie’s godparents.
Tiggy Pettifer, née Legge-Bourke, was a nanny of Prince Harry and Prince William growing up, and played a significant role in the boys’ lives following the death of Princess Diana.
Nikkah explained Pettifer is one of: “two Britons who played key roles in bringing up Harry and his brother William after the death of their mother Diana, Princess of Wales.”
Seems like she was an obvious choice given what an important role she played in Harry’s life!
Next up is Mark Dyer, a longtime friend of the 35-year-old, who much like Pettifer played a critical role in his upbringing. Per The Times, Dyer is:
“a former equerry to the Prince of Wales who became a mentor and close friend to [Prince] Charles‘ sons.”
Last but not least is Charlie van Straubenzee, another longtime friend of Harry’s. The two have been buds since meeting at Ludgrove Prep School in Berkshire and later went on to become close friends and attend the Rugby World Cup together in 2015. Months after their own wedding, the newlyweds stepped out to attend Charlie’s wedding to bride Daisy Jenks in August 2018.
It’s not uncommon for a royal child to have multiple godparents, so it’s possible there’s still some representation from Meghan’s family and friends…
