Prince Harry, for the first time, might really be experiencing the consequences of his own actions right now!
Last year, the Duke of Sussex didn’t seem to think twice about throwing his sister-in-law Princess Catherine under the bus in his explosive memoir Spare. His comments about Prince William‘s wife drove a deeper wedge between the family — one so deep, Harry and Meghan Markle reportedly weren’t even informed of Kate Middleton‘s cancer diagnosis until the rest of the world because they can’t be trusted. And this estrangement between the brothers’ families is likely only going to continue to get worse and more noticeable now that the 42-year-old undergoes cancer treatment.

Royal expert Tessa Dunlop told Us Weekly on Tuesday that Harry is likely regretting being so forthcoming about his hot take on the future queen now that she’s ill. She explained:
“When you do discover that your sister-in-law has cancer and you’ve written stuff that can’t be retracted, that’s quite a painful place to be in. I’m not saying it isn’t.”
But the Archewell co-founders also have another challenge to navigate now, she continued:
“They deliberately criticize the monarchy [and then offer] themselves as an alternative to monarchy. So then when the monarchy is in trouble, we do kind of make a comparison. Can Harry and Meghan really hold themselves off as the caring example now? They’re certainly going to have to be careful of their timing with any releases so that it doesn’t look opportunistic.”
The Suits alum teased the launch of her new brand American Riviera Orchard last month (days before Kate’s cancer news) with reports claiming she’s filming a Netflix show to go along with the lifestyle company. But now that Kate’s in trouble, well, the insider thinks she better be extra careful about how she moves forward, explaining:
“The big C — it’s kind of untouchable. When that comes creeping in the door, that just reframes everything.”
Oof. Bad timing for Meg!
That said, Harry and Meghan have already released a heartfelt statement wishing the mother of three well during her medical crisis, saying after her emotional announcement:
“We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they are able to do so privately and in peace.”
Since then, they’ve stayed fairly quiet. The next big thing on Harry’s radar is a trip back to the UK for an Invictus Games event next month (it’s unclear if his wife will tag along). That could be a huge opportunity for the two halves of the family to meet up and begin to make amends. Or it could be proof that nothing, and we mean nothing, can bring them back together. Which has to suck for the Sussexes! Being on the outs with a family member during a time like this must be extra difficult — no matter the bad blood! But that’s the risk you take when you lean into the family rift!
