Prince William is going full dad mode.
With his wife Princess Catherine in the hospital recovering from an abdominal surgery, the Prince of Wales is stepping up to the plate to be there for her and their kids!
Royal author Robert Hardman told People on Wednesday the future king didn’t think twice about canceling public duties for the time being to care for Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis while Kate Middleton heals. He explained:
“We know they are a very tight family unit, and he wants to be there for them. So much of what they do with those kids is about normalizing life and not making them feel like they are in a special gilded cage.”
This means he won’t be passing the little ones off to the nanny!

The family’s longtime helper Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo will continue to assist, such as by helping with school pickup and drop-offs, but she won’t be doing it alone! Rather than let her do all the hard work, the 41-year-old is making it a priority to be a support system for his family during this tough time, the royal insider continued:
“They are a modern royal couple. There would have been more delegation [in the past]. He doesn’t want to leave it all to the nanny.”
As per Kensington Palace‘s statement, Kate is expected to be in the hospital for “10 to 14 days” before she heads home to “continue her recovery.” She likely won’t “return to public duties until after Easter,” but Will will resume his usual workload a few days after she gets settled at home.
While the Heir is proving how loyal he is to his family right now, this kind of approach to parenting isn’t new for him. According to a close family friend of the couple, they don’t have “a huge private staff” and “as a result, William is really hands-on” with the kids, they explained:
“He doesn’t want any mistakes made with the next generation. He wants to give them a proper upbringing and lots of love. That is foremost in his mind.”
Despite being royalty, a source close to the household also insisted their family dynamic is “more like one we can all recognize.” Let’s be real, they’re NOT a typical family. They have everything they could ever want at their disposal! But we do respect William for being an active parent despite his busy and stressful life — especially at times of sickness like this!
