Princess Catherine is getting back on track.
The Princess of Wales’ cancer has gone into remission, and she’s now fully focused on her future after recently releasing a statement that her long battle with the disease had turned decidedly in her favor. But don’t count on her resting on her laurels! She still has plenty to do — and plenty of people to impact.
A royal insider spoke to People on Tuesday about the 43-year-old’s plan of attack now that her cancer is behind her. For one, Prince William‘s wife is keen on moving forward from the last 12 months, which were among the most difficult months of her entire life:
“She has drawn a line under the last year, and she can move forward. The word ‘remission’ is such a positive one to use, and it just feels a veil has been lifted on their life of the last year, and that they can move forward with positivity and hope.”
That royal source didn’t mince words when explaining how the cancer scare of the last year altered the way Kate viewed, well, everything. Noting how something like that “makes you rethink” absolutely every part of your world, the insider explained:
“It has been a tough journey — harder than we perhaps thought. She has been through a lot, and it has been a rough road. Serious illness like cancer does change you. She has a young family, and it makes you rethink everything — your purpose and what you want to do with your life.”
Wow.
But for now, Kate Middleton and her fam — hubby Wills, of course, along with Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6 — are dead-set on getting back into their “new normal.” The insider explained:
“For the princess, family — her husband and children — are more important than anything else.”
BTW, another royal source told the mag that the aforementioned “new normal” isn’t going to involve a “reset” or any dramatic life changes therein. Instead, Kate’s plan for 2025 is to maintain a pace of public royal engagements similar to what she’s been doing over the last few months. Sounds safe, sensible, and sane to us!
There have been some notable and uplifting changes, though. For one, Kate and William were recently confirmed as joint patrons of the Royal Marsden Hospital and its groundbreaking cancer care facilities. That’s a big deal, because William’s late mother Princess Diana was the president of the facility back in 1989.
Amazing!
Regarding that move, a UK-based reporter who has covered the royal fam for decades — and witnessed Diana’s impactful connection to the Royal Marsden years ago — is weighing in on how special it is for Kate to be so involved with the place at this point in her life. Ingrid Seward said this of Kate’s visit to the hospital a week ago where the Princess of Wales first announced that her cancer had gone into remission:
“It was incredibly genuine [her visit] — she really cared, and they [patients] obviously felt it too. She made them feel special. It is unusual with royalty — but you certainly had that with Diana, and now we have Kate. She has really got it.”
And a patient who bonded with Kate while receiving treatment at the Royal Marsden also opened up to the mag about the special princess, too.
Katherine Field, who was undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer last week when Kate showed out at the hospital and revealed that she’d fought off the scary disease, told the mag about how closely she and the future queen bonded over their experiences in fighting cancer:
“It was just like talking to a friend about a really horrible time in life and how you find ways of getting through it. She is very special — to be able to connect with people so quickly and so empathetically.”
So very touching…
