Princess Catherine and Prince William were furious after they were called out for photoshopping a family photo!
We all know the one. It dropped on Mother’s Day in the UK amid conspiracy theories about Kate Middleton‘s health and well-being. She was actually battling cancer, but fans didn’t know that at the time. The royal family could have said she was dealing with a health issue, but they kept pretending everything was fine, something everyone read as, well, the lie it was.
However, the result was that some truly INSANE rumors started spreading like wildfire — up to and including that Kate was dead and being replaced! There were some more believable ones, too! LOLz! But the royal family tried to dodge any questions with the weirdest move — posting a sweet family portrait, as if to prove Kate was perfectly fine.
That quickly backfired when the family photo was blasted for being altered after viewers noticed several inconsistencies. Photo agencies started pulling it from their sites, too, making the whole thing super serious! It was clearer than ever the royals were lying to the world!

So what did the Prince and Princess of Wales think about the whirlwind they kinda sorta started with their sketchiness? They thought the world was overreacting! As part of People‘s new cover story on Thursday, royal biographer Robert Hardman dished:
“There was a real sense then that they felt bruised by it. It was treated like some great fraud.”
Well, they are the future king and queen. Releasing a heavily edited photo amid all the speculation was sus as hell! Frankly, it was fraudulent…
Ailsa Anderson, former press secretary to the late Queen Elizabeth II, acknowledged it was a tense and stressful time for the couple — making this photo blunder that much more upsetting. She explained:
“It was like being on a roller coaster for them… undergoing chemotherapy and trying to protect your children. It was like being in the middle of a tornado and not knowing when it was going to calm down.”
That does sound difficult! William has since called that period of time “brutal” as he was also dealing with his father King Charles III‘s ongoing cancer treatment. One other reason the initial rumors were so challenging to navigate is Kate was trying to hold off on telling her children the news — let alone the world. Noting this time last year was the hardest for Kate, the royal insider continued:
“She knew she had the disease, but she couldn’t talk about it because she wanted to wait until the school holidays. Meanwhile, people were saying horrible things online.”
Biographer Sally Bedell Smith added:
“They were besieged by ugly speculation and intrusion, with Kate having to make an announcement that was very worrying and uncertain.”
Kate told the world just days after getting called out for the editing! Thankfully, she has concluded her chemotherapy and is currently cancer-free. The 43-year-old has also been stepping out for royal duties a lot more lately and has seemed in great spirits doing so. Amazing! We’re glad to see they’re in a much better place now.
Though we’re kinda surprised they were so offended by the Photoshop criticism! We mean… we still don’t understand why Kate couldn’t record a video like the one she did just letting everyone know she needed some time to herself because of a private health matter. All the updates without her, then a fake photo of her? What did they expect was gonna happen? That was not the time to try to be sneaky! LOLz!
