What’s Mama June gonna say about this??
Lauryn “Pumpkin” Shannon took to Instagram on Wednesday to wish her younger sister Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson the happiest of birthdays… and the sweet post alludes to some of the problems the family has been going through recently with their reality TV matriarch.

It’s hard to believe Honey Boo Boo is already 14-years old (where has the time gone?!) but her sister reminded everybody of that with this funny post and sweet birthday wish (below):

First off, that picture… LOLz!!! That’s truly vintage Honey Boo Boo!!!
But more to the point, Pumpkin alludes to how “things haven’t been the easiest lately,” and goes so far as to reference herself as Alana’s “sister mom.” Both of those are not-so-subtle shots at the pair’s real mom, who continues to be M.I.A. after reportedly running off in an RV with her boyfriend, Geno Doak.
Pumpkin Continues To Stand In…
If you’ve been following the news around Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and its stars for the last few months, you already know all about Mama June’s ongoing issues. Her boyfriend has proven to be a remarkably bad influence, and an arrest in Alabama for possession of crack cocaine has been the tip of the iceberg on the reality TV star falling far away from her children. Things have gotten so bad for the From Not To Hot star, she’s now on the brink of losing her reality TV career in addition to the serious rift she’s put between herself and her daughters.
Thankfully, though, Pumpkin has stepped up and taken on the informal role of Honey Boo Boo’s “sister mom” — and boy, do we admire her for it!
As you’ll recall, back in March, Pumpkin took in her younger sister after June and Geno were first arrested. Then, in May, Pumpkin opened up to fans about what was going on, writing on social media (below):
“Hey guys, as you know, you’ve seen the stuff out in the media and our family is going through a rough patch. But this year alone we have had a lot of happiness. And when my mom and Alana were out in California and everything seemed good. Then the next couple months rolled around and things took a turn. We’re sharing our story in hopes that it helps another family and I sincerely want to thank our fans for always being there and loving and supporting us.”
Since then, the girls have become closer and closer, even as the 40-year-old momma falls further and further away from the family.
We can only hope the reality TV matriarch finds her way back to the fam (and to sobriety, as well), but at the very least, we’re glad to see Honey Boo Boo is apparently still thriving under Pumpkin’s tutelage.
