R. Kelly is trying to keep up with appearances — at least in public — to suggest that he’s just as popular as ever despite the continued fallout from Lifetime‘s Surviving R. Kelly.
But despite what appeared to be one hell of a birthday party on Wednesday night, the rapper is reportedly feeling the controversy via debilitating panic attacks “severe enough to require medical attention.”

The R&B crooner made a scheduled appearance at V75 nightclub in Chicago that day, and by all accounts taken from videos filmed on the scene, he actually had considerable support in the crowd from fans.
It’s crazy — you’d think that even after Surviving R. Kelly came out and showed everything it showed, women might be hesitant to still support him (and most are!!!). But there are nevertheless some fans still standing by him, no matter what, and a handful of ’em were out at V75 on Wednesday.

It’s not a full concert hall of supporters, to be sure, but that is some pretty vocal support for a man who allegedly did some pretty disgusting things.

It gets worse, though — screenshots taken of social media comments during the club outing the other night reportedly show a few fans getting, um, way out of control in their support for the singer (below):

But back at home, TMZ is reporting that things aren’t actually going as well for R. Kelly as he’d like to make them seem.
Sources close to the singer say that the Lifetime doc has led to his almost daily new panic attacks, including one incident so serious that the crooner actually checked in to a local hospital for medical care.
More often than that, doctors have made house visits, too, so as he can keep a low profile. But regardless of the delivery of the care, his health is reportedly being significantly impacted here.
The episodes are allegedly triggered by the “overwhelming backlash” R. Kelly is getting — not just from fans and the general public, either, but from other celebs who are very strongly — and very publicly — coming out against him.

As for Wednesday night’s birthday celebration (above)… well, as TMZ and others note, even though Kelly’s supporters are dwindling, there are still some out there. It’s almost like the women who write letters to murderers in prison, or something — no matter the deed, there’s a (small) subset of people out there who will still willingly have your back.
Crazy — especially those who apparently want to be taken hostage (?!) — but nothing we haven’t seen before from overzealous fans trying to support controversial artists.
