Somehow, some way, R. Kelly still has plenty of fans in certain places, it seems like.
And maybe it’s no surprise that the R&B singer chose to make one of his first public appearances in recent months last night at a club in Illinois, considering he’s a Chicago native and (rightfully) assumed that the crowd in his home state might be a little more amenable to accepting him. He was right about that — but seriously, WTF are fans doing cheering the guy right now???

It all went down at the Dirty South Lounge in Springfield, Illinois last night, where R. Kelly showed up for a planned public appearance to interact with fans. According to reports, some of them even hugged the embattled performer and took selfies with him.
Kelly, as you can see (below), must have been in high enough spirits such that he even took out a cigar and smoked it as he interacted with the crowd at the club:

Of course, as the reporter notes in that tweet, it was a mix of both good and bad for Kelly last night/this morning: fans who WERE there clearly adore the man, and weren’t afraid to show it, even in spite of his alleged transgressions that keep coming to light. And yet on the flip side the club struggled to sell out because, clearly, a LOT of people have long ago abandoned ship from the controversial R&B singer. Honestly, we can only hope this second trend continues!!!

For now, it’s clear that R. Kelly needs money BAD after going to an unnamed friend to pony up the cash to pay off his ex-wife, Drea Kelly, on her extensive child support claim. The singer even took to Instagram Live at one point on Saturday to talk to his fans and beg the media to “go easy” on him ahead of the club outing.
Seriously… he posted this video to his Instagram account just hours before his club appearance, asking members of the media to “go easy” on him as he tries to continue to make back money (below):
That is… wow. Just wow. Pretty pathetic!!!
What do y’all think about all this public appearance stuff R. Kelly seems to be trying to do at night clubs now, Perezcious readers?! Those are… maybe not the best venues for him to be seen in right now, no??
Even more appropriately, maybe life would be better if he just stayed at home and kept it low-profile for a while here, at least until the justice system and the courts can have at it???
