Makin’ history up in here!
If you didn’t already know, the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro just so happen to be the most LGBT-inclusive games in the history of the sporting event.
Not only are there more out players than ever before, but Team USA also marked a major milestone when Chris Mosier became the first transgender athlete to make the squad!

The 35-year-old Duathlon runner has already had an amazing 2016 — he was the first trans individual to be featured in ESPN‘s Body Issue — but now he just got his very own Olympic Nike ad as well!
The 30-second spot features a narrator asking Chris about his undeniable courage, but the runner spoke even more about making the team off camera, saying:
“Being the first trans man on a U.S. men’s national team was a dream come true for me. I always wanted my name on a jersey. To represent our country at the highest level, in my sport, is just outstanding. It’s just such an amazing opportunity — and an amazing opportunity for other people to see themselves reflected in someone succeeding in sports as a trans man.”
We couldn’t be more proud!
Good luck in your games, Chris!
