Royals Skip Lilibet’s Christening Despite Invite From Prince Harry & Meghan Markle

Welp. This seems like a sign of the times!

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were stood up by their royal family members during an important family function last week! According to a source for People on Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex invited King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Catherine (AKA Kate Middleton) to attend their daughter Lilibet‘s christening on Friday — but NONE of them showed up!

We know, we know. Perhaps this shouldn’t be much of a surprise. The brothers have been feuding for years now, but things have only escalated in recent months with the release of Spare. If William’s not willing to sit down for an apology ahead of the coronation, there’s no way he’d go out of his way to fly across the globe for his niece’s party. Similarly, Charles is busy with lots of monarch duties these days, so it’s understandable why he’d stay in the UK, too. But still, this does prove things are still very tense!

As for the actual christening, it sounds like it was a great time for the Sussexes! They were joined by around 20-30 guests at the intimate gathering held at their home in Montecito, California. Among them was the Suits alum’s mother, Doria Ragland, an unnamed godmother, and Lilibet’s godfather, Tyler Perry. Note there’s no mention of Meghan’s estranged family members getting an invite! A spokesperson for the Archewell founders told the outlet:

“I can confirm that Princess Lilibet Diana was christened on Friday, March 3 by the Archbishop of Los Angeles, the Rev John Taylor.”

After the ceremony, guests were treated to a fun afternoon full of food and dancing. Lili’s big brother Archie even enjoyed a sweet dance with his sis! Aw!

Also, it sounds like the family went all out for the event! Another insider said the A Madea Homecoming star, who grew close with Meghan and Harry after lending them his house in 2020, was seen arriving in Cali from Atlanta last week. And he didn’t show up alone! Tyler came with a 10-person gospel choir that sang Oh Happy Day and This Little Light Of Mine at the ceremony! Whoa! The last song is especially important to the parents since it was played at their 2018 wedding, FYI.

Interestingly, just hours after this faithful bash, Harry sat down for a live virtual discussion with trauma expert Dr. Gabor Maté to promote his tell-all. During the live stream, he mentioned “feeling more and more distant” from his family in the UK these days. It’s a particularly sad comment knowing he’d invited them to an event the day before! Oof.

Of course, this also comes after the 74-year-old monarch evicted the couple from Frogmore Cottage, too, which was their only UK-based residence. They reportedly have until after the coronation in May to officially move out. The Harry & Meghan stars have received an invitation to the crowning ceremony, but it remains unclear whether or not they will attend. After getting so iced out from the rest of the royal family, we wouldn’t be surprised if they were also no-shows! What do U think, Perezcious readers? Was it rude of Charles, Camilla, William, and Kate not to attend the christening? Sound OFF (below)!
