You won’t see Ryan Reynolds’ gin brand in the new A Simple Favor movie!
Fans of the first movie may remember Blake Lively’s character Emily makes her frenemy Stephanie, portrayed by Anna Kendrick, a “real martini” served in a frozen glass and made with one product: her husband’s Aviation American Gin. The gin brand was featured prominently throughout the 2018 film and during the promo. For instance, Blake and director Paul Feig recreated the cocktail for a video on Regal Cinemas YouTube channel, with Aviation Gin front and center. Watch it HERE.

As Blake said last August, Ryan “works on everything I do, [and] I work on everything he does.” They’ve got their corporate synergy to a science. However, the Deadpool & Wolverine actor won’t get any free promotion this time! Aviation Gin is OUT, taking its place for Another Simple Favor is Artingstall’s Brilliant London Dry Gin!
Is Paul trying to be shady toward Ryan and Blake? It may come across that way to some, but we don’t think that’s what’s happening here! First off, Paul has defended the Gossip Girl alum a few times since her legal drama with Justin began in December, even calling her “one of the most professional, creative, collaborative, talented and kind people” he has ever worked with. So the switch probably was not for a shady reason but a more selfish one — to help his own brand now!
Yep, Artingstall’s is Paul’s own brand! The filmmaker hilariously told Entertainment Weekly on Tuesday:
“There’s no more Aviation. This movie is all Artingstall’s all the time. I’m very proud of my brand. And actually, our bottle is so beautiful that it fits in. It doesn’t feel like it doesn’t belong. There’s never a shortage of martinis in any of my movies.”
Ouch!
It “doesn’t feel like it doesn’t belong”? What is he saying about Aviation? Oof!
Anyway, a loss for Ryan but a win for Paul… right? Well, maybe not such a big win to be in this particular film. While the Bridesmaids director may get promo for his gin company, the question is how much? People aren’t exactly as supportive of the previously anticipated film because of Blake! Yes, thanks to her ongoing legal battle with Justin Baldoni, things are… messy this time around. In fact, many fans are refusing to watch the sequel once it comes to streaming on May 1! Yikes! Not good!
