The death of Kanye West‘s mother, Donda, has encouraged physicians and lawmakers to call for greater protections for patients undergoing cosmetic surgery, according to a new report.

In the U.S., such surgeries are increasingly done outside hospital settings in outpatient clinics, where a doctor can avoid rigorous review.

And, with the number of cosmetic procedures overall on the increase, it’s almost a matter of public health that something be done.

In 2007, there were 11.7 million cosmetic procedures performed in the United States, a 59% increase over 2000.

Y’all, if you’re going to have something done, make sure you’re in good hands!

If Donda’s law is passed, doctors performing plastic surgery would be required to give patients full physicals before operating on them. That shady Dr. Jan Adams did not.
