Scott Disick is making sure his son doesn’t fall down the same path as him.
As Perezcious readers, the Talentless founder struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and checked into rehab multiple times over the years. We even saw how His Lordship acted when he wasn’t sober during Keeping Up With The Kardashians — and how it caused a lot of tension in his relationship with Kourtney Kardashian before they broke up for good in 2015. Remember when he stuck money down a waiter’s throat while partying and drinking in Vegas? Yeah, not a good look. And that was only one of the many examples of his eyebrow-raising actions on the show.
Because of KUWTK, his kids, Mason, Penelope, and Reign, most likely will see how he behaved under the influence one day. While Scott “would not love to have” his children see him in that light, he revealed on the premiere podcast episode of Khloé in Wonderland Wednesday that he isn’t shying away from talking about his past issues. The reality star told Khloé Kardashian that he speaks to his eldest Mason about his alcohol problems, saying:
“But the truth is I do explain to Mason, like, how drinking affected me and how badly it put me in certain places, and he knows that.”
Wow! After one of their conversations about his struggles with addiction, Scott noted that the 15-year-old questioned if he would be “treated differently” by his father “because of that.” However, the television personality refuses to do so. He knows that Mason might drink one day. If the teenager does and Scott finds out it’s becoming a “problem?” He’s stepping in! Scott explained:
“I said ‘I’m not treating you any different because of my mistakes or how I lived. But if I see a problem with alcohol with you, I will take action. But other than that, you’re just like every other kid. You’re gonna try drinking when you’re gonna try drinking.’ If I see a problem that might be hereditary, then I’ll jump in. But until then, you’re treated like every other kid.”
Of course, there is a chance Mason will choose not to drink due to his dad’s history. Scott even recognized that the teen seeing his “outlandish” behavior on KUWTK may “prevent him” from going down that path. But just in case Mason does decide to imbibe, Scott is talking to him “all the time” about alcohol addiction, adding that his aunts Kendall and Kylie Jenner are fantastic role models:
“I’m just like, you know, it could take you down a really bad road, or it could be a really fun road. I feel like Kendall and Kylie are a perfect example of, they’ll go out, they’ll have some drinks. They are the perfect mix — where Kim didn’t even drink — but Kendall and Kylie they’ll go have a few drinks, they’ll have fun and nothing more.”
We’re glad to hear Scott is having these conversations with Mason. It must be so hard. Some parent don’t want their kids to see or hear about all the mistakes they’ve made in life. However, it’s important to have these tough talks anyway so that they can possibly learn from your past and not make those same mistakes. And if the kids do, they at least know they aren’t alone. That their parent will be there to help them no matter what. Hopefully, he continues to speak openly about his struggles with addiction to all of his kids as they grow up.
