We knew Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco were friends first, but we had no idea how long they’d known one another! In a new convo for Interview Magazine, a journalist asked the couple when they first met, and surprisingly it was back before Selly even started making music!

The Wolves singer said she was around “16, 17” when she first came face-to-face with her future fiancé. Oh wow! That long! Benny added the fun fact her mom Mandy Teefey was the one to introduce them:
“Her mom set up a meeting between the two of us. This is right when I became big and she wasn’t a singer yet.”
This would’ve been around 2008 or 2009 — when the Love On singer said she was still “with Disney Records“. Benny said of her early music career:
“When she started putting out music, I was so into it. I feel like she was the original sad girl … Everyone was like [beatboxing] and she was like, ‘I just want to look good for you.’ I was drawn to it.”
Aww! A fan since day one! The two quickly became friends… but there was more there even then. Selena explained she eventually got a crush on the record producer — before he had any idea:
“It was really simple. We got in the studio to work on a song and we just talked; that’s how easy it was for me. I liked him before he liked me.”
Benny revealed he had “no idea” she was into him — so much so that he offered to set her up with his friends! Such a guy move! Sigh. He explained:
“Yes. I literally didn’t know. We were in the session and I was like, ‘You should meet some of my friends. I can hook you up with some dates.’ I hadn’t thought about it at all. And then we were texting afterwards and we decided to get dinner the next day. I guess she thought it was a date and I had no idea it was a date. The second time we hung out, our second date, I was like, ‘Wait, does she like me?’ I was clueless. From then on, it was easy.”
LOLz! Well at least he realized it in the long run. And it didn’t take much for him to realize “this is my wife”:
“You know when you think you met the right person, you’re like, ‘Oh my god.’ But it feels so different. The second we started hanging out, I was like, ‘This is my wife.’ I was telling my mom, ‘This is the girl I’m going to marry.'”
SO sweet. We love these two together, they seem so happy! Reactions, Perezcious readers?
