Shakira is reflecting on her personal life!
During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday, the 46-year-old singer opened up about her “rough year” after breaking up with her partner of 11 years, Gerard Piqué. As you may recall, Shakira and Gerard split last June after she discovered he was having an affair with his now-girlfriend, Clara Chia Marti. It wasn’t just some random woman he met one day. Nope! Shakira reportedly knew her before their affair began! So brutal. And she also caught them red-handed, in a sense! The Hips Don’t Lie songstress allegedly found out about his infidelity after noticing her jam was disappearing – even though neither the 36-year-old athlete nor their sons liked the fruit spread. And Clara was the culprit! Oof…

While the entire situation has been tough on Shakira, she shared with host Jimmy Fallon that music – especially her new revenge track BZRP Music Session #53 – has been a way for her to healthily “channel” all of her feelings. She explained:
“The thing with the song is that it has become sort of like an anthem for so many women out there. I’ve had a very rough year after my separation, and writing this song [Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53] has been so important to me. It’s been a healthy way to channel my emotions.”
Despite going through some dark times, the She Wolf artist said she genuinely connected with a “sisterhood of women” who’ve gone through similar struggles:
“I really felt that I don’t even have fans out there. I have a sisterhood of women who have been through the same things that I have been through, who think the way I think, who feel the way I feel, who had to put up with so much crap the way I had to. And I did write the song for me but also I feel that it was meant for so many women out there that needed a forum and a voice to represent them in so many ways.”
Love that!
Plus, there’s no better revenge than success at times – and Shakira is undoubtedly relishing that right now as she has broken a whopping 14 Guinness World Records, Jimmy pointed out! Impressive! You can ch-ch-check out her entire interview and her performance of BZRP Music Session #53 (below):
