Chris Nanos really put his foot in his mouth with this one!
As we’ve been following the case of Nancy Guthrie‘s disappearance, the Pima County Sheriff has also become a big topic of discussion for all the wrong reasons. Past sources have claimed Sheriff Nanos’ team is extremely small and inexperienced for such a case like this. He’s also been called out for alleged emotional responses to this case, with some wondering if his outbursts could be directly working against the investigation’s favor.
Not to mention, it looks like Savannah Guthrie and her family themselves have been losing hope. A recent insider suggested the sheriff seems “more focused on the cameras than the case” — which, if true, would just leave a bad taste in everyone’s mouths. Plus, that recent very quick catch-and-release of a man who claims to not even know who the Guthries are? Yikes. Just a lot of confusion and controversy all around. Not what you want in a time sensitive investigation like this!
Meanwhile, the FBI seems to be doing a lot of the heavy lifting in this case while the Sheriff’s Office is having regrets about not searching the crime scene thoroughly enough…

And now, this resurfaced interview of Chris bashing the FBI — the very department that’s working alongside him to solve this mystery — is making its rounds on social media!
In 2016, the Tucson area law official told local outlet KGUN9 that he’s got the best team for any job, and completely put down the federal department. At a time when the agency was looking into claims of misuse of funds in his department, he said:
“If [the FBI is] having problems doing criminal investigations please call us because we have real policemen here.”
That’s not all he said, either! He continued to allege that the FBI just “can’t get it done”:
“We’ll do that for you. Because obviously they can’t get it done. I’m upset at the inappropriateness of their investigation. And they are inappropriate.”
Seems like the worst type of irony now… Ugh.
In that interview, he also dragged the FBI and their then-office director Andy Black for looking into what the department was spending RICO funds on. There had been accusations the money was being spent on the cafeteria back then:
“In terms of the FBI investigation of RICO funds, that’s just crazy. It is absolutely and Mr Blackknows this. He denied to her that RICO funds were being used to buy fridges and other equipment, adding: ‘We have no access to RICO funds, never have. We bought some Tasers, okay? That’s an appropriate expense for RICO.”
He continued at the time:
“The FBI to me has better things to do. So I am I upset at the FBI, absolutely. They get by with saying no comment. Who does that in today’s world? Yet they get by with that.”
There just seems to be an uncomfortable history of confusion in this department — and they clearly have some tension with the FBI.
No wonder Savannah and her fam are said to be so concerned… Reactions, Perezcious readers?
