Sia wants you to know she’s suffering, too.
Specifically, she’s suffering from a disease called Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS), which leaves her in “chronic pain” every day of her life.
The Cheap Thrills songstress made the revelation on Twitter on Friday, encouraging fans suffering from any type of pain to keep pushing through it.

She wrote:
“Hey, I’m suffering with chronic pain, a neurological disease, ehlers danlos and I just wanted to say to those of you suffering from pain, whether physical or emotional, I love you, keep going. Life is F**king hard. Pain is demoralizing, and you’re not alone.”

Thanks for sharing, girl!
According to The Ehlers-Danlos Society, EDS weakens the connective tissue of the body and usually results in loosened joints that stretch further than normal, thinned skin that stretches further than normal, tissue fragility, and weakened blood vessels. Web MD claims the “classical” type of the disease occurs in 1 in 20,000-40,000 people.
Sia clarified in a series of tweets on Sunday night:
“Just to clarify, I have a neurological disease AND ehlers danlos. EDS isn’t a neurological disease. ? sorry for the confusion.
If you’d like more information it’s neuralgia caused by a routine surgery three years ago. My TSH is also 29, it’s supposed to be below 4, so I’m severely hypothyroid. I’m also taking time off to do intensive therapy on Complex PTSD. Turns out my bipolar 2 diagnosis was wrong.
Oh yeah, herniated c6-7 c4-5 and cubitle tunnel syndrome. no STDs, which frankly, is miraculous given my twenties. so… Plenty of people suffering more than me. At least I have resources. I really feel for those struggling w/the healthcare system. KEEP GOING!”
That is a lot to deal with.

But Sia isn’t letting it stop her from performing. In fact, the 43-year-old performed at the LGBT Center of Los Angeles’ 50th anniversary event last month, wearing her notorious black-and-white wig with a giant bow on her head.
The songstress’ recent confession led to an outpouring of love on social media, with hundreds of followers showering Sia with well wishes and messages of support. Fellow singer-songwriter Mary Lambert wrote:
“you inspire so many of us, @Sia. Take care of your body & heart, on your terms. We love you right back. ❤️”
Meanwhile, another user penned:
“thanks for always being so honest, this means a lot for people in similar situations.. You’re an incredibly strong woman who keeps inspiring many around the world. We LOVE you and support you, always ❤️”
They stan an honest and a sometimes vulnerable icon — and Sia is just that.
She previously opened up about her health issues to Billboard in 2013, revealing she was once addicted to prescription meds while battling her alcoholism. She told the mag:
“[I] got seriously addicted to Vicodin and Oxycodone, and I was always a drinker but I didn’t know I was an alcoholic. I was really unhappy being an artist and I was getting sicker and sicker.”
Thankfully, the Grammy nominee has since conquered her substance abuse. She wrote on Twitter last year:
“Eight years sober today. I love you, keep going. You can do it.”
What an inspiration!
