The long talked about Spider-Man musical is finally coming to Broadway!
The stage adaptation of the character and comic book has been in the works for the past three and a half years. Bono and U2 are set to write the music. And Julie Taymor (The Lion King) is set to direct.
With a fourth Spider-Man movie scheduled for 2011, the musical would mark Marvel Studio’s expansion to the stage, a feat that has proved successful for the Walt Disney Company, and Marvel Studios Chairman David Maisel’s prior Broadway experience with Tony award-winning Fosse should come in handy.
Marvel Studios was created by Marvel Entertainment Inc. to bolster its revenue from movies and adaptations based on its comic book characters. And, with the success of Iron Man the move has proved more than profitable.
We can only hope for the casting reality TV show.
The Spider-Man musical should hit Broadway in 2009, or so they say.
