Earlier today, we announced the full list of the 2012 Oscar nominees, and we were pleased with many of the selections!
Now, some of the nominated stars have opened up about the Academy’s choices!
Here’s what Gary Oldman had to say about his Best Actor nomination for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy:

“This afternoon in Berlin I have learned that I was nominated for an Academy Award in the category of Best Actor. You may have heard this before, but it has never been truer than it is for me today, it is extremely humbling, gratifying, and delightful to have your work recognised by the Academy, and to join the celebrated ranks of previous nominees and colleagues. Amazing.”

And here’s what Brad Pitt had to say about his AND Jonah Hill’s Moneyball noms:

“We’re ecstatic over here. It means so much considering this film was just dead on the rocks two years ago. It took a lot of people to get it to the screen. It’s a great honor. I’m really happy.”
“I’m so happy for Jonah Hill, I can’t tell you. I’m doubly happy that Tree of Life made it in there, we thought we were all but forgotten; just excited for [director and nominee] Terry Malick.”

More from Brad on going up against George Clooney for Best Actor:

“I’m sure we’ll be exchanging many good words later, it’s more fun to have a friend there and no one does it better than George. I say give him all the trophies, and when you run out of trophies, make some new ones and give him those too.”

How sweet! And here’s what Harvey Weinstein had to say about his films’ 16 noms this year:

“The art of performing in a silent movie is a lost process, and I have to thank the director and brilliant ensemble of actors in The Artist. We wouldn├óΓé¼Γäót be here today without their talent. The Artist is a love letter to classic American cinema, and today the Academy gave us a love letter back.”
“Special congratulations also goes to Meryl Streep from The Iron Lady, Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh from My Week With Marilyn, and to all of our other film nominees including best documentary Undefeated. Today is a great day for celebrating creative courage, visionary talent, and the power of independent cinema to inspire, to entertain, and to move people in all kinds of new and exciting ways.”

All very exciting! We’ll look forward to seeing who comes out on top! Give ’em hell, Harvey!
