Sydney Sweeney BLASTS ‘Fake’ Women Empowerment In Industry After That Producer Attacked Her For No Reason

Sydney Sweeney is calling out all the “fake” so-called women empowerment in Hollywood!

In Vanity Fair ‘s Hollywood Issue out on Wednesday, the Euphoria star was asked about a scandal earlier this year when Father of the Bride producer Carol Baum slammed her “unwatchable” film Anyone But You while saying she is “not pretty” and “can’t act.” So freaking rude!

Reflecting on this incident, the Madame Web lead blasted the entire industry, pointing out:

“It’s very disheartening to see women tear other women down, especially when women who are successful in other avenues of their industry see younger talent working really hard — hoping to achieve whatever dreams they may have — and then trying to bash and discredit any work that they’ve done.”

There’s just no need. Did this producer never learn the golden rule: if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all?

Rather than harp on Carol, though, the 27-year-old, who founded her production company Fifty-Fifty Films, argued this is a problem all throughout Hollywood, adding:

“This entire industry, all people say is ‘Women empowering other women.’ None of it’s happening. All of it is fake and a front for all the other s**t that they say behind everyone’s back.”

Oof!

She went on to speculate on why this is the case, sharing:

“I mean, there’s so many studies and different opinions on the reasoning behind it. I’ve read that our entire lives, we were raised — and it’s a generational problem — to believe only one woman can be at the top. There’s one woman who can get the man. There’s one woman who can be, I don’t know, anything. So then all the others feel like they have to fight each other or take that one woman down instead of being like, Let’s all lift each other up. I’m still trying to figure it out. I’m just trying my best over here. Why am I getting attacked?”

Well said!

If you missed the controversy, back in April, the film producer did a Q&A with NY Times critic Janet Maslin. She recalled watching Sydney and Glen Powell‘s rom-com, saying:

“I said to my class, ‘Explain this girl to me. She’s not pretty, she can’t act. Why is she so hot?’”

The actress’ rep clapped back, telling various outlets:

“How sad that a woman in the position to share her expertise and experience chooses instead to attack another woman. If that’s what she’s learned in her decades in the industry and feels appropriate to teach to her students, that’s shameful. “To unjustly disparage a fellow female producer speaks volumes about Ms. Baum’s character.”

Within hours of the harsh remarks going viral, the Buffy the Vampire Slayer producer told TMZ she “wishes she would never make her original comments.” No s**t! She also claimed “crapping on an actor like that in public usually isn’t her style.” She did it so carelessly, so it’s hard to imagine that’s the first time it ever happened. Just saying!

It’s too bad women empowering other women isn’t as common in Tinseltown as they make it seem. Hopefully, Sydney can lead the charge! Thoughts, Perezcious readers? Tell us in the comments (below)!
